Why Believe That Jesus Is The Only Way?Many Christians today don’t have a firm grasp on what the Bible says about Jesus. Was He just a wise man? A prophet? Douglas Groothuis presents biblical evidence for Christ’s lordship. Spiritually Incorrect “I love Jesus,” exclaimed a woman in the audience, “but He never wanted anyone to worship Him!” As I looked at the group of about thirty people, I saw nods of agreement and heard rumblings of approval. Another member of the panel discussion that I was on said, “I find the way of Jesus helpful, but I can’t exclude anyone’s spirituality ou...

Learning Contrition, Mercy & Forgiveness on the ...Every once in awhile a news story comes along that really helps us to understand how we as a culture think. These are stories that blend in a bunch of social themes which represent our heartbeat. Today the baseball world brings such a story. Wednesday night in Detroit, Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga was just one out away from the 23rd perfect game in Big League history. A perfect game refers to a game in which the pitcher retires all 27 batters in a game without allowing any to reach base (via a hit, walk, hit batsman, or error). All Things Dark & TerribleWild dogs probably devoured the crucified body of Jesus, a liberal biblical scholar announced several years ago, but it was not his infidelity about the Resurrection that was so rattling. Christianity has battled such claims since the perjured testimony of the guards at Jesus’ tomb. More distressing was the scholar’s image of Jesus’ body as food for scavenging carnivores. This image is disturbing for a reason, and it points toward a problem for Christianity that is more ancient and more problematic than the naturalistic assumptions found in modern biblical criticism or in the reigning Da...

A Colossal Fraud(This is the first of two posts from John MacArthur regarding “prosperity preachers.” The second, Unholy Trinity, is forthcoming.) Former NASDAQ chairman Bernie Madoff ran a ponzi-scheme swindle for nearly 20 years, and he bilked an estimated $18 billion from Wall-Street investors. When the scam finally came to light it unleashed a shockwave of outrage around the world. It was the largest and most far-reaching investment fraud ever. But the evil of Madoff’s embezzlement pales by comparison to an even more diabolical fraud being carried out in the name of Christ under the brig...

Jesus Never Laughed?Perhaps we’re accustomed to only thinking of Jesus as “a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief” (Isa. 53:3). His crucifixion is certainly no laughing matter. Or maybe the image of a laughing Jesus offends simply because it makes Him too human. Yet Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Jesus is able to sympathize with us because He is exactly like us (minus the sinning). God has gifted us with a sense of humor; it stands to reason that Jesus had one too. Now, every culture has its own idea of what is funny: Watch a random selection of German, Spanish or Japanese comedy shows and sometimes you’ll b...
