CARM Gets it Right: A Response to a SDA – Objection...This entry is part 5 of 15 in the series SDA Propaganda RefutedRE: Objection 4 We turn our attention to Romans 14:1-12 and the statement by CARM: Furthermore, Romans 14:1-12 speaks of our freedom in Christ, particularly our freedom to worship on any day we choose. To which Glenn objects with: Again, more texts taken out of context. I think these guys need to learn the fundamental rules of interpretation. The entire chapter has plenty of food references, and not once does it talk or mention the Sabbath. What is the chapter talk about then? Fasting. Paul was telling the hearers not to be...

CARM Gets it Right: A Response to a SDA – Objection...This entry is part 4 of 15 in the series SDA Propaganda RefutedRE: Objection 3 This objection by Glenn is raised concerning 1 Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come. Glenn objects with: Again, another text taken out of context. If they took the time to delve into what Paul was writing about, the brethren at CARM would understand that Paul was requesting donations for disaster/famine relief, just like churches today are encouraging members to give to relief organiz...

CARM Gets it Right: Excursus 1This entry is part 2 of 15 in the series SDA Propaganda RefutedThis is a response to this post which was itself a response to a previous post of mine. Well, it didn’t take long for the ad hominems and snide remarks to start. Maybe I brought this on myself or maybe not. Either way, from here on out I do hope that this SDA can remain adult and civil. In response to my assertion that Acts 13:42 is speaking of Jews and not Christians, Glenn responds with Now, I’m not sure what version he’s quoting, but to answer his question, he needs to look no further than a different translation. Dani...

The Heresy of Joel Osteen: Part 6After watching the old 60 Minutes interview, I searched for more interviews by Osteen. He appeared on “Larry King Live” while promoting his last book, as well. The transcript is here. The interview with Larry King only makes me more wary of Osteen. When King asks him if he believes in an afterlife, Osteen says that his mortal body is like a “coat,” and that the “real me” lives on the inside. Osteen makes the same mistake that many people make with respect to the eternal state. He doesn’t realize that we live for eternity in resurrected physical bodies. The whole ...

The Heresy of Joel Osteen: Part 5The sad thing about Joel Osteen is that he has all the marks of a sincere person. I’ve said it over and over again, if you’ve ever watched him (especially on that old 60 Minutes interview) there is not one thing about him that looks phony. He is one of the most likeable, loveable fellows that you’ll ever see. I really think he believes everything he is saying. That is why what he does is so awful. The prosperity gospel that Osteen preaches will damn the very people he intends to help (if they believe it), and he appears completely unaware of the darkness into which he plunges h...
